Job Title:Academic Coordinator (Western Curriculum)

Job Purpose

The Academic Coordinator is a key educational leader within the middle school division. The Academic Coordinator is accountable to the Head of Curriculum Center/ Head of Middle School.
The Academic Coordinator is the lead member of curriculum development and academic management for the division. As a key leader within the division, the Academic Coordinator is expected to show initiative, be a visible presence, and be an exemplary communicator within their own key learning areas and in the school community.
Academic Coordinator is responsible for effective curriculum delivery, high achievement of educational learning goals, learning outcomes, academic standards and the meeting of targets and benchmarks, work on the action plan decided by the school and evaluate the effectiveness as requested from WASC. They have a key role in the development of a positive work environment – one that is innovative and responsive to student needs. They work with the leadership team to achieve the school’s vision and mission.
Job Duties
The Academic Coordinator will fulfil the following duties and responsibilities:
Curriculum development and supervision of the curriculum delivery
Work with the school curriculum team to design VKBS- appropriate curriculum and ensure the coherence of 1-9 curricula as well as the integration with the Chinese curriculum
Create and supervise vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment teams.
Along with the Heads of Department monitor delivery of curriculum and support teachers as needed in this area.
Work with the curriculum team to design a staff training plan regarding curriculum development and implementation.
Along with the Heads of Department oversee the selection of textbooks, resources, and other materials connected to curriculum implementation.
Along with the curriculum writing team, assist teachers to develop the curriculum/unit plans and implementation strategies for their respective courses, including the identification and progression of key learning skills by grade.
Along with the Heads of Department work with individual teachers to assess current resources, activities, assessments and evaluation methods currently in place and how these connect to the curriculum.
Assist the curriculum review process
Design and provide staff development relative to curriculum.
Collect and interpret parent survey data as it pertains to delivery of curriculum. Academic quality management and student achievement data analysis
Collect and interpret student achievement data.
Lead meetings for HODs concerning academic quality and academic related issues
Along with the HODs to work with and provide guidance and support teachers to interpret data in order to adapt and guide pedagogical practices.
Provide support in the implementation of SIOP components as they relate to the improvement of teaching and learning across the division.
Follow the directions of the administration, and provide support to the HODs and teachers with the implementation of standards-based assessments, when the appropriate time comes.
Provide support to the HODs and teachers in the development of both content and language objectives and with differentiation techniques to help improve teaching and learning.
Provide support to the HODs and teachers in developing learning activities that connect to the objectives, which connect to the relevant curricular standards.
Keep minutes for all meetings with HODs and send to the curriculum center
Use data to measure student achievement and progress; maintain records of student achievement.
Align academic programs with student learning needs.
Be an active member of the senior leadership team (SLT), and report to the curriculum center/principal as needed and/or directed. Staff management
Work with HODs to supervise the work of the teaching staff (western staff in particular) including formal lesson observations and drop-ins
Deal with the teaching incident and implement the action plans to be taken for the support on teachers
Work with the curriculum center and HR department for staff PDs, orientations, and so on to support teachers’ career development
Assist in the western teachers mentoring programme
Evaluate the work of HODs and assist HODs for the evaluation on teachers guided by the school
Organize academic related activities as planned
Cover lessons when needed
Build the effective and cooperative academic team
Work closely with the branding and admission department to promote the school
Assist the parent-school communication
Work closely together with the student center to help the overall development of the students
Work on the effectiveness of the teaching and learning based on ACS WASC criteria

Requirements


Hold a valid teaching license.
Possess a Master’s Degree in Education (preferred)
Currently employed as a middle school teacher at VKBS.
Have five (5) years successful teaching experience in an middle school in the specific subject
area related to the departmental position.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the syllabus requirements for all relevant subjects
Demonstrate an understanding of current trends in education
