Purpose:
The Director of Student Services is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and reviewing of strategies at SSIS for engaging and supporting students from enrolment through to graduation. The role includes managing student services operations, identification and support of learning needs and ESL, buddying and mentoring programs, as well as coordinating with other essential learning services. The role encompasses activities that directly relate to the enhancement of student learning needs as well as improving student progression and personal success beyond school.
Reports to:
The Director of Student Services reports to the Campus Principal through to the Head of School.
Organisational relationships:
The Director of Student Services works closely with Divisional Principals to ensure overall leadership and management student services across the school
Responsibilities:
1. Administration
Provide oversight and ensure continuity of Student Support Services programs and processes PN-12.
Strengthen the effectiveness and interconnectedness of ESL, counselling, and learning support services at SSIS.
Ensure consistency of referral process across divisions Coordinate and support the counselling team
Enhanced identification and screening of children with learning
Facilitation of SSIS Student Support Services fortnightly meetings
Evaluate cases and lead in recommendation of cessation of services for
students to be exited from programs.
Recommend policies, programs and procedures essential to the needs of
children.
Assist administrators in developing and maintaining related school policies
and procedures relating to student services
Develop a budget for Student Support Service
2. Consultation
Consult and support teachers, parents, and administrators regarding healthy and effective ways of dealing identified learning needs.
Lead and consult with the School Counsellors, learning support and class teachers to develop interventions based on individual student needs.
Help teachers, parents, and administrators to understand child development and how it affects learning and behaviour.
Assist admissions as needed.
Help students effectively utilize the educational opportunities/programs of the school.
Provide Student Support Services Program orientation to new students
(including buddy programs), their parents, and new teachers.
3.Liaison
Help foster tolerance, understanding and appreciation of diversity in the school community.
Develop partnerships with parents and teachers to create a healthy school culture.
Inform and update teachers and parents about the activities of Student Support Services.
Process referrals to external agencies/professionals, as needed. Serve as a liaison with community agencies providing support services to students and parents.
Requirements
Master's Degree or higher preferably in educational administration or special education.
Experience in coordinating or providing oversight of Student Support Services programs and processes including ESL and learning support.
Experience with inclusive practices and/or programs.
Experience of managing a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Cross cultural experience/understanding a plus.
