Job Summary & Responsibilities
The DOS is responsible for improving the quality of teaching and driving the educational direction of EF learning center(s).
Supervision:
Reports to the Centre Manager (CM) and
Consults with the Regional Academic Operations Manager (AOM) and
Production Manager (PM) if present
Will also work with line managers from other functions in EF learning
center(s).
Main Responsibilities:
1.Training, staff development and management
-
Encourage, facilitate and participate in the professional development of teachers

Regularly observe teachers, according to EF English First guidelines
-
Provide training to the marketing, sales and service teams regarding the academic product and any updates or changes
-
Train and induct teachers in operational procedures and EF English First company products
-
Work with the CM and teachers to constantly improve the academic quality of the centre
-
Lead and/or arrange seminars and workshops in teacher development
-
Maintain teacher personnel records
-
Regularly evaluate academic staff, establishing clear goals and priorities for improvement and development according to
EF English First guidelines

Recruit teachers, according to EF English First guidelines, in agreement with the CM
-
Deal with staff (teacher, CM and sales/service) concerns promptly and effectively, communicating needs to other
managers/departments as necessary

Discipline and dismiss teachers according to EF English First guidelines and in agreement with the CM
-
Organize and lead regular staff meetings and effectively communicate management decisions to teachers
-
Implement changes resulting from group decisions, in agreement with the CM
2.Scheduling and teacher utility
-
Plan and organize his/her own and teachers’ time efficiently and in the best interests of the centre
-
Assign him/herself willingly the appropriate teaching hours
-
Prepare lessons and equipment in advance for all classes(approximately 1 ACH to every 3 ACH class)

Substitute or arrange cover for classes according to EF English First guidelines
-
Consult with the CM and sales staff to ensure effective timetabling
-
Maximize teacher utility and group size in the best interests of the center

3.Administrative routines
-
Complete (weekly/monthly – as required) utility and production reports and send to CM/AOM
-
Complete weekly/monthly DOS reports and send to CM/AOM as required
-
Ensure academic function’s full compliance with administrative duties as defined by EF English First guidelines
4.Centre development and operation
-
Proactively develop local contacts and community initiatives to promote the centre
-
Coordinate and implement all course management procedures in a timely manner
-
Coordinate the placement testing of students’ in cooperation with the sales team, according to EF English First guideline
-
Develop course/supplementary materials based on customer needs and in cooperation with the regional support office
-
Meet regularly with the CM and exchange all relevant information
-
Maintain class and student records and ensure exams are set, marked and evaluated properly
-
Oversee the work, development and behavior of students within the center
-
Inform students and their parents of center aims and objectives
-
Maintain an inventory of academic equipment belonging to the center and oversee the maintenance of such resources
and recommend new resources to be purchased

Maintain a presentable and well-organized teachers’ room
-
Ensure that displays create an atmosphere conducive to learning, with the approval of the CM
-
Organize and participate in promotional activities as required by the CM
5.Cooperation with Regional Support Office (AOM)
-
Develop administrative/academic systems in cooperation with the regional support office
-
Become familiar with EF English First company products and procedures
-
Mentor new Director of Studies’ within your region as assigned by the AOM
-
Proactively develop links with counterparts in other EF English First centers
-
Consult with the AOM regarding the academic quality, issues, concerns and projects in the center
-
Keep EF English First central office informed of and seek approval for changes regarding the center’s academic program
-
Implement new curricula as directed by EF English First together with the CM
-
Cooperate with the AOM to design and update materials in accordance with EF English First guidelines
-
Share relevant materials produced on-site with the AOM for the benefit of all centers
-
Use company mail account and read company email daily and intranet periodically
6.Professional development
-
Regularly evaluate own performance and progress
-
Maintain awareness of new ELT methodology and developments
-
Always seek to develop and update skills in accordance with changes in programs as directed by EF English First
guidelines

Participate in all training, conferences and seminars offered by the regional support office

Requirements
Working hours and locations
The DoS works for 40 hours per week, distributed in agreement with the CM, including between 6 – 18 academic (one academic hour is equal to 40 minutes) classroom hours per week, up to 78 academic (equal to 52 real) classroom hours per calendar month, dependent on the center’s needs and discussions with the Center Manager.
The DoS will be required to work 5 days per week during the non-peak season and 6 days per week during the peak seasons (June – August and January – February). Management duties may occasionally require hours above 40 per week.
Suitable candidate shall have: at least 1 year teaching management experience, 2 years (or above) teaching experience and a bachelor degree.
