JOB DESCRIPTION


PRIMARY

Teacher Year 6 (G7)

Note that International Class Teachers work closely with a Chinese Co-Teacher and share responsibility with the Co-Teacher for planning, effective delivery and assessment of children.

Basic Information:
Start date: As soon as possible
Learners age: G7 Students
Class Size: Maximum 24 students per class
Teaching hours: FTE (0830 – 1600 Mon – Fri)



Main Purpose

To ensure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and the highest standards of care, learning and achievement for all students.

Knowledge and Understanding

Ø  To have a current knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers.

Ø  To take responsibility for implementing school policies and practice, including those relating to equality of opportunity.

Ø  Work to achieve the general and particular aims of the school.

Ø  To plan effectively to ensure students have the opportunity to meet their potential, notwithstanding differences of race and gender, and taking account of the needs of students who are under achieving, very able, or not yet fluent in English.

Ø  To plan effectively to meet the needs of all students in the class, including the preparation of Individual Educational Plans as necessary.

Ø  To assess, record and monitor each student’s progress in line with the policies of the school and to report to parents.

Ø  To monitor students’ class and home activities, providing constructive, oral and written feedback.

Ø  To use teaching strategies that keep students engaged through effective questioning, lively presentation and good use of resources.

Ø  To create a safe and stimulating learning environment that supports learning and in which students feel secure and confident.

Ø  To set high expectations for student behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline based on mutual respect and personal responsibility.  To deal with inappropriate behaviour according to school policy.

Ø  To set a good example to the students taught through one’s presentation and one’s personal conduct.


Wider Professional Effectiveness

Ø  To take responsibility for one’s own professional development including participation in Teacher Appraisal procedures.

Ø  To attend training in and out of school, as directed by the Leadership Team.

Ø  To contribute to the Extra-Curricular Activities of the Section.

Ø  To work effectively as a member of the school team, establishing and maintaining good relationships with colleagues, parents and students.

Ø  To collaborate effectively with the Co-Teacher, sharing in the planning and management of students’ learning.

Accountable for:

The education and welfare of the children, the quality of learning and the achievements of all students in the class.

Authority to:

Ø  Implement rewards and sanctions within the school policies and procedures.

Ø  Liaise with parents or other responsible adults and with external professional staff in accordance with school policies and procedures.

Entitlements:

Ø  Training and development within the school’s PD programme and in accordance with School Development Priorities.

Ø  10% Planning, Preparation and Assessment time.

Ø  Appropriate professional support from the Head of Section and other colleagues.

Requirements

Professional Requirements

Ø  Qualified Primary Teacher holding a degree in Primary Education or other relevant field

Ø  2 Years’ successful experience as a Primary School Teacher

Ø  Clear knowledge of child development in the Primary years.

Ø  Must be willing to commit to a 2-year contract
