Primary Classroom Teacher
DETAILS
Primary Teachers (grades 1-6)
• Shenyang/Benxi, Liaoning province
• 2 years contract renewable by mutual consent
Foreign and Chinese primary teachers share homeroom and teaching responsibilities in our Primary Department. Classrooms and teachers are well-supported with resources such as classroom materials, teaching supplies, and various student texts as well as guidance such as the support of Chinese and Foreign Heads of Primary, professional development opportunities, and collaborative department/group meetings. Depending upon the grade assigned, teachers are expected to facilitate their student’s academic achievement in English, Science, and/or Math. Our current teachers exhibit a combination of experiences, qualifications, and personality that fits with our mission. Therefore, OCIS is willing to consider a variety of experiences and education to locate the best candidate for our school. A comprehensive reading focused English program is key to the International Program at the Primary School. The school focuses the learning around the standard Chinese curriculum and the British Columbia standards for English Language Arts
Specific Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement lesson plans following the school’s curriculum, aims, and vision,
embedding the strategies from the Smart Learning framework to include clear learning
outcomes, success criteria and formative assessment and feedback. • Prepare, teach, assess, and provide feedback to students
• Assess and analyze students’ academic progress utilizing specified procedures
• Utilize data analysis to drive instruction
• Provide relevant academic and behavioral data to stakeholders including students, parents,
and Heads of Primary
• Work collaboratively with other staff members to develop common unit plans and
assessment strategies, share resources, etc,
• Assist with various student supervision duties such as at lunch or recess
• Assist with after-school clubs and/or extracurricular activities at least 2 times per week.
• Assist with rotating evening boarding student duties from 18:30 – 20:00 once every 2
weeks
• Participate in regular faculty, parent-teacher, and professional development meetings
• Represent the school at events, open days, workshops, as well as any media events
Requirements
• Strong English communication skills
• Ability to develop and implement lessons utilizing a variety of resources
• Ability to provide instruction in a variety of primary subjects (English, math, science,
and/or social studies)
• Degree(s) in Education, Primary Education, Early Childhood Education, and/or English
• Primary trained or primary experience teachers preferred
• At least 2 years of teaching experience in a KG to 6th grade school setting as a full-time
classroom teacher
• Teaching licenses/certifications from home countries
