Job Description

Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou (WAISHZ) is situated in Xiaoshan District, south the center of Hangzhou. The site itself comprises two schools, a Lower School and an Upper School, providing exceptional education for students from EY through to Year 13 (Grade 12). Heads of Department will be expected to develop exceptional working relations with the leadership of the Lower School and the Upper School. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a start-up school, with WAISHZ opening in August 2021.

Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou will be established as a private school enabling local Chinese nationals to enjoy the benefits of a Wycombe Abbey School education.  The majority of the student body will be Chinese nationals studying a unique programme where an internationalised programme complements the Chinese National Curriculum. The students will be taught in both Mandarin and English so that they can graduate from the School with undergraduate levels of both Mandarin and English and thereby flourish at premium universities all around the world.

Job Title: Upper School Drama Teacher

Position Objectives:
  1. To ensure a caring, happy, safe and structured environment for pupils and staff

  2. Under the direction of the Head of Department, to teach a curriculum that fulfils the aims and goals of the school and reflects the needs of the pupils

  3. To demonstrate a strong, confident, hands-on teaching style where management of time, personnel and resource are discharged efficiently in an atmosphere of consultation and collaboration, with due regard for the cultural complexities of international education.

You will contribute to ensuring the successful growth and continuous improvement of your department and of the school.

Reporting to and liaising with the Primary SLT, you will challenge, influence and motivate pupils to deliver outstanding performance. You will uphold and actively promote our commitment to integrity, accountability and an aspiration for excellence.​

Experience: You have experience of teaching the designated languages. Teaching in a mixed-ability classroom.
Knowledge of recent developments in teaching and learning A proven track-record of success in the classroom.

Qualifications or Training: Qualified Teacher Status Graduate

Practical Skills:

Ability to organise (subject-based) after school and extra curricular activities.

Ability to motivate pupils who have come from a range of cultures and backgrounds.

Ability to simplify instructions and commands.

Allow pupils time to reflect on their own performance.

Personal Qualities & Attributes:

A commitment to challenging pupils to reach the highest possible standards.

You should be an active learner and a reflective practitioner

Good communication skills.

An effective team player.

Able to learn from other staff members, as well as being able to share your own best practice with other team members.
