New International Schools Overview
For this article, TopTutorJob (TTJ) is aiming to help international educators learn more about new international schools in China and the benefits of joining these schools.
First and foremost, in the following article the definition of new international school is defined by TTJ as international schools that were founded in the past three years or those that are still under planning. International schools in this article are defined as any K-12 schools that include international program with a public school, private funded bilingual schools and schools for expats. It has to be mentioned that, a sole kindergarten or training centre is not included in our discussion.
The international schools market has been developing significantly in China in recent years. From the year of 2016 untill now, many new establishments have been and are being set up. According to the TTJ school database, there were more than 100 new international schools in the year of 2017 and 2018, and around 29 in the year of 2019, and around 9 more new ones by the end of Sept. 2020. They are mostly in tier-one cities, like Bejing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, followed by some new tier-one cities and tier-two cities like Suzhou, Chengdu, Ningbo, Qingdao, Xi'an, Dongguan, Dalian, Tianjin and Nanjin.
The reason why new international schools are emerging in China has been discussed in one of TTJ's article Teach in China: China has a huge demand for international education and the money to pay for it. Thus, the booming economy needs better education one thing. Education reformation in China, with the support of Chinese government, has increased in scale and intensity. For example, a key international education program in Xi’an Liang-Jia-Tan International School is supported by the local Hi-Tech Zone Administrative Committee of Xi’an, Shaanxi. Additionally, Chinese and international investors have also realized that the development of international education has substantial economic value and they have been actively taken advantage of this booming market. For instance, Olive Tree International Academy, BFSU is founded in partnership with a Hangzhou-based investment company. Finally, internationally well-known education groups, like Nord Anglia, Harrow, Wellington, are aggressively expanding their campuses and market share for future success.
Although new international schools in China are being established and are developing from time to time while international educators usually have limited infomation about them or pay no attention to them. Therefore, TTJ would like to share the potential advantages of joining these new schools in the following section and the lists of these schools.
New International Schools Jobs & International Educators
Why International Educators Should Join New Schools
- More and Diverse Job Openings
In In some new schools, there is a larger number and a wider variety of jobs than established schools. During their inaugural year, international schools highly demand international teachers in each subject or at different levels. Therefore, if teachers are looking for a more specific position or a position thats demand exceeds its. supply in the teaching job market, checking out positions in these new school could be a good choice.
- More Competitive Salary and Benefits
Some new international schools offer more competitive salary and benefits to attract excellent international educators as they are still in the process of establishing themselves on the market. So called "old" schools do not need to attract teachers with competitive salaries because they rely on an established reputation.
- Great Experience and More Opportinities for Career Development
New schools usually have great potential to develop and it can be wonderful experience for teachers to grow with the school together. Teachers can gain new skills and team experience as a result of joining an emerging school.
Additionally, if your career path is focused on a school management position but you do not have much related experience yet, applying for positions in new international schools may be worth it. In a new school, there might be more opportunities for career development. For example, at new international schools you are more likely to get promoted to a managerial role in the near future if you are qualified for it.
- More Open to Inputs and Changes
New schools values input from teachers or others greatly and they are more likely to openly listen to advice and suggestions on improving the overall quality of education, and thus may improve and evolve faster than other schools. In other words, the system and curriculum in new schools are still flexible to be built and changed to some extent. Accordingly, foreign teachers may get more freedom in designing their own curriculum in order to suit their teaching style, or to apply newer methodologies for teaching than those that are common at more established schools.
- Newer and Up-to-date Resources and Facilities
Compared with a traditional school, new schools are more likely to have newer teaching and learning resources. Up-to-date teaching methodology could be available, and possibly teachers will work in a new, modern building with modern teaching facilities and infrastructure. Specifically, new schools might offer digital classrooms and apply new technologies such as audio-visual teaching aids and digitized homework assignments. They often tend to control their class sizes and try and maintain an optimal student-steacher ratio to prevent teacher fatigue and maintain healthy interaction levels.
Therefore, if you are a teacher who likes to face challenges and work hard, and would like to develope your career in a quicker and a more effective way, joining a new school can be a good option.
