The permanent resident population of Nanjing is 8.5 million by the end of 2019, and the city's population density is 1,248 people per square km.

Nanjing is located in humid tropical monsoon climate zone north, with four distinct seasons. The summer average temperaturein Nanjing is 32 °C, while in winter the temperature is around zero degrees Celsius.

How to Get to Nanjing

There is one international airport in Nanjing: Nanjing Lukou International Airport, and it is about 35 km away from the city center. Besides, there are two railway stations: Nanjing Nan station and Xianlin station.

Nanjing is in the northwest of Shanghai, and the distance between the two cities is 270 kilometers (168 miles), which lasts about two hours by high-speed rail.

The education mission of Nanjing is"First Base of the Economy - Education”, and according to Nanjing Government, there are 53 ordinary universities and colleges in Nanjing, including some well-known universities such as Nanjing University.

International School Jobs in Nanjing

And the types of job opening are ESL teachers, subject teachers, and homeroom teachers. Among them, ESL teachers are in greatest demand. 

To become a foreign teacher in Nanjing, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree is compulsory. And according to our 'Nanjing City&Salary 2020 Research Report’, one to two years working experience is required in nearly half of the international schools in Nanjing.

If you apply for the ESL teacher job, the majority of schools want applicants from an English speaking country.

Kindergarten Jobs in Nanjing

14 kindergartens are recorded by TTJ by July 2020 including Etonkids international kindergarten. There are limited types of teachers in kindergarten, mostly are ESL teachers. 

To become an ESL teacher in kindergartens in Nanjing, holding a minimum bachelor's degree is a prerequisite. Moreover, according to our 'Nanjing City&Salary 2020 Research Report’, the demand for teachers from an English speaking country is high, and about 75% kindergartens in Nanjing mentioned native English speaker in the job description.

As for the working experience, most kindergartens in Nanjing do not focus on working experience, a freshman teacher(less than one year) is acceptable. However, you must be positive and passionate with children and your work is not limited to teaching English but also instruct students and meet their varying needs and interests.

Most of the chain brand training centers open their chapters in Nanjing, such as Field English, Hampson, and Wall Street English. Only ESL teacher job opens in the majority of the training center. 

To become an ESL English teacher in a training center in Nanjing, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree is compulsory. Nanjing ESL Job Requirements

First, the minimum bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for all the ESL teachers in international schools, training centers, and kindergartens.

Besides, according to TTJ “Nanjing City&Salary 2020 Research Report”, there is no high requirement for the teacher's work experience. Generally, less than one year is acceptable, especially in the training center.

As for nationality, most kindergarten and international schools want to employ teachers from an English speaking country, while there are more chances provided by training centers if you are not but have a clear and standard accent.

Nanjing salted water duck has a long history and people have accumulated rich experience in making it. The salted water duck has the characteristics of tender, fat but not greasy; fragrant, and crisp. 

The most famous salted water duck is made before and after the Mid-Autumn Festival in September every year by using sweet osmanthus. This kind of salted water duck is called the osmanthus duck.

Cost of Living in Nanjing

The average cost of a family (four people) is ¥ 14,221($2,029) without rent. If you are single, the cost decreases to ¥ 3,892($555). 

As for the rent, the rent cost in Nanjing is about 70% lower than that in Shanghai. A single apartment with one bed in the city center costs around ¥3,167($452), while with three-bedroom costs about ¥ 6,888($983).
