Job Description


The Subject Lead PE  is a member of the academic  leadership team of the school. Working closely with the Secondary and Primary Coordinators, the Subject Lead’s focus is on delivering the promises of the Philosophy and Objectives and the mission of Yew Wah International Education School. Primarily, the Subject Lead is jointly responsible with the Primary and Secondary Coordinators (TnL) for ensuring the quality of teaching and learning in the subject department, for the professional development of teachers within the department and ensuring the curriculum meets the needs of students and national requirements and regulations. The Subject Lead is also directly responsible for ensuring the quality of and consistence of assessment, recording and reporting within the department. The Subject Lead supports the Quality Assurance process through working with the Primary and  Secondary Coordinators to carry out learning walks, observations and work scrutinies . The Subject Lead is the primary supervisor for the appraisal and performance management of department staff, though where needed is supported in this by the Coordinators.

The Sports Coordinator is responsible for teaching and learning within PE and the effective delivery of the sports programme. Responsibilities include:

² Organisation of CCA sports activity programme and team training

² Oversight of coaches

² Organisation of tournaments and involvement in school teams in local and regional competitions

² Other sports enrichment activities outside of normal school hours.


Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Instructional leadership and Staff Development


² Promote through pedagogical knowledge  and role modelling the learning and teaching philosophy of Yew Wah

² Lead on Quality Assurance processes within the department using Learning Walks, Observations and Work Scrutinies to both maintain high standards of teaching and provide feedback to further develop and improve such.

² Oversee the teaching within the department through the preparation of schemes of work and monitoring performance of students during lessons.

² Contribute to teaching within the department.

² Support the development of teachers capacity to use Educational Technology to provide blended learning.

² Oversee the professional development of department staff through a process of guidance, delegating, and consultation.

² Supervise the work of, and give professional guidance to, any student or teacher assigned to the department, supplying written reports to the appropriate Co-Principals upon request. This includes the conduct of observations and yearly appraisals.

² Implement school policy for Learning Support including the needs of the most, and the least, able.


Curriculum  Coordination

² Plan, implement and review the curriculum within the framework of the Chinese National Curriculum, Pearson BTEC, and the school’s policies. To develop the curriculum design to meet the needs of our students.

² Ensure a Curriculum Manual provides a plan through which the curriculum will be delivered.

² Ensure  Schemes of Work that provides detailed guidance to teachers in regards the delivery of the curriculum

² Ensure that students’ work is regularly assessed and their achievements recorded.

² Ensure the PowerSchool records regarding pupil achievement and progress are kept in a timely and consistent manner.

² Liaise closely with the Secondary Coordinator in charge of timetable with regard to the allocation of curriculum time to the department, and also with regard to the assignment of appropriate staff to courses.


Student Life

² Contribute to the life of the school through developing a rich Sports programme (see below).

² Plan trips, excursions and other experiential learning  to enrich students’ school-based learning


² Support members of the department who may be having problems with individual students or classes; to ensure student discipline is maintained in order to ensure lessons during which meaningful learning can take place.

² Ensure that the department’s learning  spaces present a stimulating environment.

² Adhere to the school’s ECD Policy to support the appropriate education of students and monitoring of appropriate use of technology as per the ICT usage Policy.

² Promote student health and fitness through assemblies and other measures.


Communication


² Attend meetings of the Academic Leadership Team.

² Chair regular department meetings as directed within the school‘s meeting schedule and ensure that minutes are taken with copies being given to the Coordinators and Co-Principals.

² Liaise with the school’s Coordinators with regard to pupil entries for BTEC  and other examinations.

² Work with Coordinators to ensure appropriate subject selection and streaming.

² Take the lead in communicating with parents and liaising with other agents in regards department business.

² Ensure the  quality of communication with parents within the department.

Organisational Leadership

² Develop a rich sports programme that takes full advantage of the excellent school facilities, local partnership arrangements and student’s interests and talents.

² Oversee and direct the planning and implementation for whole school sports related events.

² Establish and coordinate the after school sports activity and PE coaching programme.

² Supported by Administration,  liaise with and have oversight of partners who provide coaching and organisation of school teams, including the swimming team, golf team and equestrian team.

² Coordinate and organise key sporting events, such as Sports Day, Foundation Day tournament etc.

² Lead on the development of sports enrichment activities outside of normal school hours for both students and staff.

² Control and direct the ordering, storage, and use of materials, equipment, books, etc. and to account for spending within the budget to the Co-Principals.

² To this end create a Budget Bid for the next academic year as directed by the Co-Principals.

² Oversee the work of teaching and non-teaching staff assigned to the department and to advise and assist the Co-Principals in matters of staff appointments and appraisal.

 

Other responsibilities

² Supervise the work of, and give professional guidance to, any student or teacher assigned to the department, supplying written reports to the appropriate Co-Principals upon request. This includes the conduct of observations and yearly appraisals.

² Oversee liaison:

² within school

² with contributory schools and with other middle and high schools.

² with parents.

² with other institutions such as colleges of further education and local industry.

² To ensure that there are equal opportunities for all.

 

 












Requirements

 

² Native English speaker

² Holder of Bachelor Degree in relevant subject with teaching certificate or license

² Minimum 5 years of full-time teaching experience in an international school setting, with experience or training in KS3, IGCSE/A level, IB or BTEC

² Experience of organisation of major sporting events

² Evidence of having successfully implemented sports programmes.

² Excellent communication and organizing skills

² Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated commitment in teamwork

² Previous experience in a leadership role is a plus
