Job Description

A. Students
1.Develop and teaching the career/university guidance curriculum.
2. Advise students, as a group, on the importance and implications of subject selection at IGCSE, and individually in the year prior to entering IB level.  Answering individual student queries when required.
3. Provide individual counseling to all year 12 and 13 students on the whole university application process, from subject selection, destination, identifying and short-listing choice of university and major, writing personal statements, departure.
4. Provide group counseling to year 10 and 11 students on topics including subject selection, summer programmes, internships, university fairs, etc.
5. Meet regularly with parents both on an individual (for year 12 and 13 students) and group for year 10 and 11 students) basis to discuss and offer advice on the overall university application process.
6. Write references for all university applications, including meeting with IB coordinators and teachers for analysis of student potential.
7. Compile and mailing university applications, which may include references, essays and transcripts, etc.
8. Plan, organize and deliver a pre-departure briefing for graduating students to prepare them for their university experience.
B. Universities and Other Institutions
1. Represent the school at various meetings and conferences
2. Develop and maintain relationships with university representatives through planning a calendar of university visits to the school and hosting and coordinating such visits.
3. Ensure that the school maintains affiliations with professional organizations such as CIS, OACAC and attend relevant conferences.
C.    School
1. Meet with the Co-Principals regularly to give reports and updates.
2. Work with the IB Coordinator, Secondary Coordinator, department heads and subject teachers in the school.
3. Develop good lines of communication with teachers to obtain academic information on students.
4. Work closely with school English Department on providing extra guidance to students with their personal statements and admission essays.
5. Supervise the PSAT and SAT, if applicable.
6. Organize and delivering workshops for teachers to keep them informed of the functions of the UGO and provide them with guidance on writing subject references.
7. Provide educational and career programmes for students from years 9-13.
8. Deliver presentations during school IB and IGCSE Information Evenings.
9. Organize the school university information evenings.
D.    Managing the operations of the UGO
1. Oversee and manage the daily operation of the school UGO (if there is no HUGO.
2. Oversee, manage and monitor the UGO budget (if there is no HUGO).
3. Develop and maintain a fully-equipped and up-to-date university and career resource center.
4. Plan, implement and publish student guidelines for university applications.
7. Be active in representing the school in networking events and activities where there is the prospect to strengthen the relationships relevant to university admissions and counseling.

Requirements


* Native English speaker or equivalent.
* Holder of Bachelor Degree minimum, Master’s degree or above preferred, international university experience preferred
* At least 2 years of experience as a university guidance counselor, teaching experience is a plus
* Support Yew Chung's values
* Prior knowledge and experience with university systems and application procedures for UK, US, Canadian, Australian and Hong Kong universities highly advantageous
* Prior knowledge and experience with the IB Diploma, IGCSE and A-Levels highly desirable
* Able to deal with parents, teachers, students and administrators effectively and with tact and diplomacy, in a multi-cultural environment.
* Able to multi-task and prioritize multiple tasks.
* Strong computer and IT skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

l  The term of the contact is normally 2 year (24 months)

l  Pay scale range: RMB 19K- RMB 44K/m before tax(salary scale differs among our schools, also highly depends on the location, candidate’s years of teaching experience and their education background)
l  Insurance: •For Employee: Group medical insurance coverage including hospitalization, outpatient and emergency evacuation, 100% covered by School •For Spouse & Child(ren): Group medical insurance coverage, 90% covered by school.
l  Fixed and Variable Gratuity: A maximum of 15% of total earned base salary over the term of the contract, including 9% for Fixed Gratuity plus a maximum of 6% for Variable Gratuity
l  Professional Development Allowance: RMB 5,000 per School Year
l  Housing: A Furnished Apartment or Housing Allowance (housing allowance differs based on the location)
l  Baggage Allowance & Airfare Allowance are also available.
