Job Description

Shrewsbury International School Guangzhou seeks to appoint appropriately qualified teachers to the founding team of our premium British brand school, opening in September 2023.

Individuals joining us will be attracted to the pioneering opportunity of shaping a new school in its founding years.

The school has capacity to enrol 2,200 students from Kindergarten through Year 1 to Year 13 of the British (English National) curriculum. There will be 1,000 boarding places in the Senior School. The medium of instruction will be English, combining with a strong programme of Chinese Language and Culture. The planning for the founding year includes provision for selected year groups in the Junior and Senior Schools.

Shrewsbury Guangzhou is a purpose-built world class campus, located on a stunning riverfront site in the Nansha District. The school is in the geographic centre of the dynamic Greater Bay Area.

Requirements


Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Science will:

  1. Be attracted to the responsibility and opportunity to create a new academic department in the school’s founding years, with a focus on curriculum design, teaching and learning, assessment of learning, administration systems, resources and facilities, teacher recruitment and marketing.

  2. Have demonstrated experience of academic leadership and potential to lead effectively.

  3. Have in-depth knowledge of the subject field and best practice in the methodologies of British education.

  4. Be a specialist in one of the Science subjects, with a strong advantage of teaching and leading the field of Science education more generally, including teaching across Science subjects and setting up a Science programme as well as programmes in specific subjects.

  5. Create a strong team and science programme which gives expression to the school’s intent to be a flagship centre of science education.

  6. Have experience of curriculum design, including practical work and the setting up of laboratories and safety protocols.

  7. Be excited by educational innovation, including digital learning.

  8. Engage with examination boards.

  9. Be highly motivated and encourage good communication within the team, including the promotion of positive cross-cultural relations.

  10. Conduct development of performance review processes within the department.

  11. Collaborate with other academic leaders.

  12. Be a research mindset, eager to learn.

  13. Be a planning and systems competence and expertise.

  14. Have administrative experience, evidence of tasks execution.

  15. Optimise the management and effectiveness of resources and facilities.


Teaching Role:


The Head of Science is expected to deliver all three sciences to KS3 level, and then deliver his or her specialist subjects at IGCSE and A-level. Experience of teaching any subject of Physics, Biology or Chemistry at IGCSE and Advanced Level

is desirable, the ability to offer other sciences at any examination level is an advantage but not necessary. We are looking for an inspirational candidate who is keen to further enhance the teaching and learning in the school as well as further developing EAL and ICT resources in this area.   •  Criminal record check(s) according to residence history prior to the start of contract.

  •   Confirmation of identity (Passport).

  •   2 signed, confidential references (one of which will be from the candidate’s current headteacher) before the start of contract.
