Job Description


a) Help develop the university application process for SSIS students;
b) Provide to students and families advice, assistance, and resources relating to university
and scholarship applications;
c) Support students with standardized university admissions testing and requirements,
supplementary applications, and university program planning;
d) Help to determine the passions, values, and interests of students to provide a well
balanced approach to academic and university planning;
e) Develop a keen understanding of world-class universities, their target student demographic
and scholarships opportunities;
f) Organize and implement workshops, written materials, and website information throughout
the year on topics relating to university admissions;
g) Meet with university admission representatives and facilitate meetings with representatives
and students;
h) Work closely with other guidance staff and academic teachers to develop guidance
curriculum as it relates to university applications and student success;
i) Educate students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and
application essay writing techniques;
j) Carry assigned load of classes while meeting all of school’s prep, planning and reporting
protocols as expected in the teaching profession;
k) Collaborate with fellow department members and across departments to design and deliver
content that challenges our students and prepares them for their post-secondary pathways;
l) Be available to support students in their learning through tutorials or enrichment
opportunities;
m) Support in the provision of training sessions for staff on Personal Statement writing and
reference writing and be supportive to staff who require assistance and guidance in these
areas;
n) Undertake other duties as requested by the Director of Student Services, Senior School
Principal and Head of School.

Individual Student Planning
a) Participate in promotion and retention decisions
b) Collaborate with teachers and the Senior Division Principal/Assistant Principal to support
course selection activities for students.
c) Administer and follow up with surveys related to student interests, habits, attitudes, etc.
d) Consult with students regarding long-term career plans, summer camps, internships,
graduation plans, and career or university preparation.
e) Support the transition of new students, departing students, and transitions between school
sections and grades
f) Promote inclusion, equity, and access for all students

System Support
a) Remain current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students
b) Uphold International School Counseling Association (ISCA) ethical and professional
standards
c) Membership in professional association conferences and meetings (i.e. ISCA, etc.)
d) Advocate for every student
e) Attend and constructively contribute to staff meetings.
f) Consult with teachers, leadership, and parents to provide information and resources that
support students and the school community
g) Provide workshops for parents (i.e. transition, relevant school and student issues, etc.)
h) Actively participate in other school programs (i.e. leadership teams, parent teacher
associations, committees, etc.)
i) Fulfill program management and operations (i.e. plan and manage tasks needed to support
the school counselling program and those duties that need to be fulfilled as a member of
the school staff)
j) Collaborate to support the management of the counselling program (i.e. budget
responsibilities, order and develop resources, maintain counselling facilities, write policies
and procedures, research development)
k) Analyze student achievement and counselling program data to evaluate the counselling
program, conduct research on activity outcomes, discover gaps that exist between different
groups of students
l) To follow the proper procedure for taking students off-campus for educational purposes
Please seek approval for any proposed off-campus activity for the students. Once given,
approval, an Event Form must be filled out with very detailed information and signed by the
respective administration
Qualifications and experience required:
a) Demonstrated knowledge of current best practice in international pedagogy and innovation.
b) Experience as a University Guidance Counsellor in international schools. Experience
with North American, UK, European and Asian university admission policies and practices
an asset; Experience assisting high school students with university and scholarship
applications; Administrative experience working directly with students at a university or high
school environment; Experience with teaching Career Education;
c) Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and communication
skills and the ability to build relationships with students, families, colleagues and university
representatives;
d) Relevant university credentials in an academic field. Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s
Preferred). A leadership postgraduate degree is highly desirable.
e) Work experience with other cultures and nationalities within an international education
environment. Ability to facilitate delicate conversations with honesty, tact, and a positive
perspective.
f) Proven ability to bring about and support change.
g) Bilingual abilities, especially in Mandarin would be an asset




Requirements


  • Native English speaker
  • Related Degrees in the teaching subject 
  • Minimum 3 years’ full time related teaching experience in International schools
  • A positive attitude
