Henan: Prohibit the Use of "Bilingual" or "International" in Kindergartens' Names

The Department of Education of Henan issued a notice to carry out the standard on the naming of kindergarten throughout the province, prohibiting the use of "international", "bilingual", "art" in kindergartens' names. All kindergartens in Henan province should complete the rectification by the end of May this year.

The notice also requires all localities to implement the standardized management on the naming of newly approved kindergartens, double-check the names before and during the apporval process and conduct daily examination to kindergartens, strictly prohibiting the unauthorized use of names.

Ministry of Education: Improve the Proposition Quality of "Zhongkao"

The Ministry of Education is planning to hold a special meeting to promote the proposition work of Zhongkao (high school entrance examination) this year, further improving the quality of the proposition.

The Ministry of Education will make a breakthrough in the comprehensive reform of basic education, including deepen the reform of examination evaluation, accelerate the unified proposition of Zhongkao, further strengthen the research work on the proposition under the "double reduction" policy, improve the quality of the proposition, ensure the proposition is based on the standard and the difficulty level is appropriate.

Former "Giants" of Education and Training Released Their Latest Financial Reports

New Oriental, TAL and Gaotu, the former "giants" of education and training, released their latest financial reports. The above three education and training institutions have stopped providing subject-based training services for K-9 students by the end of 2021. Gaotu will stop the training business for high school students by the end of February 2022.

As of November 30, 2021, the revenue of New Oriental in the first half of fiscal year 2022 was $1.967 billion, with a net loss of $908 million; the net profit was $179 million in the same period of last year. TAL achieved a net revenue of $3.85 billion in the first three fiscal quarters of fiscal year 2022, a net loss attributable to shareholders of listed companies of more than $1 billion; the net profit was $53 million in the same period of last year. As of September 30, 2021, Gaotu had a net income of 5.288 billion yuan and a net loss of 3.39 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2021, compared with 766 million yuan in the same period of 2020.

Cheltenham College Appears in China for the First Time

Cheltenham College officially starts its cooperation with Jinhua Junwa international school on February 18. Relying on the International Department of Junhua school, the two schools will establish a Cheltenham center to carry out all-round and multi-level academic exchanges and cooperations in basic education, so as to provide students with high-quality international education services.

This cooperation is the first appearance of Cheltenham College in China. On the basis of implementation the curriculum standards of China, the two schools will further carry out in-depth cooperation from various aspects such as management concepts and teaching methods, improve communication between Chinese and British teachers and students, strength professional planning and guidance for further studies.

Singapore: Vaccinated Travel Lanes Reopened for Certain Travelers

Beginning February 21, 2022, the government of Singapore will reopen Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs). Long-Term Pass holders who are permitted to enter Singapore will be allowed to travel via a VTL without applying for a Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP).

Long-Term Pass holders include Student Permit, Special Permit, Employment Permit, Long-term Visit Permit and Work Permit. This exception is not directed towards Work Permit holders, who will still need to apply for a VTP before traveling via a VTL.
